Ponies trample Ranger gymnasts

Stillwater deserves its No. 2 ranking

Unlike the mystery of the previous week, where the Forest Lake gymnastics team wasn’t sure what kind of squad Park had developed, the Rangers knew the Stillwater Ponies would provide a difficult test.

Forest Lake swims away with victory

swimjg.jpgWith the fun and casual Suburban East Conference Relays out of the way, the Forest Lake swimming and diving team opened the new season with a trip to Park on Dec. 13, and an invitation to compete at Blaine last Saturday.

 

QUICK OFF THE BLOCKS: Forest Lake’s John Goossens was the Human Blur last Thursday, when the boys swimming and diving team competed at Park. The Rangers won a tight meet, 94-92, with Goossens picking up a total of four first place finishes.

Rangers skate through rough patch

Since starting the year at 7-0, the Forest Lake girls hockey team had not won a game in five straight attempts. Last Saturday, the Rangers (8-4-1) fell to the defending state champion Stillwater Ponies, 4-2, which came after a 5-3 loss to the Duluth Northern Stars on Dec. 13.

Charise Kendrick ( right) and her teammates faced Cretin-Derham Hall (4-4-3) on Tuesday night, where Forest Lake won, 5-3.

The team now has some time off before taking part in the Schwan Cup Tournament that runs Dec. 26-28.  

 
Wrestlers tangle with top competition
Besides their opening match against Cretin-Derham Hall, the early-season schedule for the Forest Lake wrestling team has gone from difficult to “difficulter.”

Girls undefeated season stops rolling at Park

Win streak ends at 7 for basketball team

bernerbb.jpgSend ‘em on the road, have them play at home, out of conference, in conference — right now it doesn’t matter where the girls basketball team plays or who they face, Forest Lake is winning.
 

UP AND OVER: Helping the girls basketball team to a 7-1 start has been the consistent Annie Berner. In Forest Lake’s win at Cretin-Derham Hall, the junior post player scored 24 points.

Meet the Rangers on January 12

Presented by the girls and boys basketball programs at Forest Lake Area High School

WHO:  All area youth – girls and boys – 1st through 6th grade
WHAT: Youth will participate in a free camp atmosphere, being broken into smaller groups by age and ability level. Each group will rotate through various stations, learning about the game of basketball and developing their skills. The stations will be taught by current girls and boys basketball players at Forest Lake Area High School. Contests, games and prizes will top off the two-hour event.
WHEN:  Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
WHERE:  Forest Lake Area High School – Field House and Main Gym
WHY:  This will be a great opportunity for area youth to learn about the game of basketball, interact with Ranger coaches and student-athletes, and have some fun!  The future of Forest Lake Basketball is in the area youth; this is a fantastic way to develop the success, quality and tradition of Forest Lake Basketball.

Double the wins at Double Pursuit

Nordic teams own Dean Power event

lizpski.jpgOn Tuesday, Dec. 11, the boys and girls Nordic ski teams participated in the Dean Power Double Pursuit competition at Troll Hollow, and with just two other schools involved, Forest Lake was the decisive winner in both races.   

 

A STEADY CLIMB: At last week’s Dean Power Double Pursuit, Elizabeth Peterson crushed the competition in the skate portion, propelling her to a first place finish with a time of 32:52.
