Wanted: Council candidate with experience
It is unfortunate that the city of Forest Lake faces the need to seek a fifth member for the city council. The city is now accepting applications from city residents who are willing to hold the seat on an interim basis. The appointment became necessary in the fall after Councilman Bo Bogotty suffered a serious stroke. He has been unable to return and his long-range availability is uncertain. Thus the need for the appointment to take place.

The end of the year is approaching and the holiday stress is starting to build. The trips to the in-laws and the ringing of the cash register can really make one go crazy. Another aspect of the end of the year is renewing memberships in worthwhile organizations such as the Washington County Historical Society.

State should create victim’s compensation fund
One of the highest priorities for the 2008 Minnesota Legislative session should  be authorizing  a state compensation fund for the victims of the I-35W bridge collapse. The tragedy on Aug. 1, 2007 took 13 lives and has affected hundreds of other lives.
