Jensen is Voice of Democracy winner

Caitlin Jensen was honored for her first place finish by Forest Lake VFW Post 4210 in the 2007 Voice of Democracy Speaking Contest at the Post’s November meeting.
Jensen will compete at the regional level at the Fridley VFW during the month of January.
This year the speech writing theme was “My Role in Honoring America’s Veterans.”
The Voice of Democracy scholarship program is a speaking contest created in 1947 to permit high school students the opportunity to be spokespersons for freedom.
The national first place winner receives a $30,000 scholarship toward his/her educational expenses from the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars.
Also honored was Alexandra Getchell from Stillwater Junior High School for her second place finish.
Jonas Koenig from the Forest Lake High School Agriculture Department, was honored for his third place award.
Both Jensen and Koenig were students in the Youth Leadership Public Speaking class in the Agriculture Department at Forest Lake Senior High School where all students submitted entries.
The Forest Lake Senior High Agricultural Education Department offers courses and internship opportunities in the areas of animal science, plant science, natural resource science, mechanics, business, and leadership development. Students are also members of the Forest Lake FFA.
