A day after the  boys golf team secured the Suburban East Conference title, a trophy was already on display in  the main office of Forest Lake High School.

A smiling Joel Olson, the Rangers Activities Director,  said he was hoping head coach John Buck and his squad will bring in two more first-place awards, as the golfers prepare for sections and a likely return to the state tournament.

Forest Lake wrapped up the conference honors by winning at Stillwater on Monday, May 12, and then followed up on that victory with yet another win on Wednesday.

At Stillwater more than a week ago, the Rangers shot 300; five strokes better than second-place White Bear Lake.

Jeremy Tetrault and Peter Follese finished with one-over 73s, putting them three shots behind medalist Tony Marchio of Mounds View.

“Peter had a unique round of 17 pars and one bogey,” Buck pointed out.

Next in line were John Young at 75, and Andrew Kelly and Paul Moberg with a pair of 79s. Doug Jeans turned in an 82.

“On Wednesday the team shot a season-low of 291,” Buck shared.

“The team again was led by seniors Jeremy Tetrault and Peter Follese. Jeremy had a three-under 68, and Peter a one-under 70.”

Once again, Young was third for the Rangers with a 76, with Moberg completing the scoring with a 77. Kelly closed out with an 82 and Jeans ended at 84.

Forest Lake begins sections on Wednesday at Grand National Golf Course in Hinckley, with the second round being completed on Memorial Day.

JV Dominates

The Rangers junior varsity team entered its final match of the season (May 19 at White Bear Lake Yacht Club) on a three-game winning streak.

The boys shot a 321 at Stillwater, a 318 at Oak Glen, and a 315 at Phalen.

At Oak Glen Golf Course on May 15, Ryan Hanson was the conference medalist after shooting a one-under 71.

“Shane Sampair won a medal by shooting 80, Tyler Carpenter shot 82, and Max Kelly and Drew Massey  shot 85,” Buck said.
