Thanks to a comfy 6-1 win over Chisago Lakes in the Section 7AA quarterfinals, the Forest Lake tennis team moved on to face Grand Rapids on Tuesday morning in the semis, with the hope of playing all the way to the state tournament.

Rangers head coach Greg Patchin said it’s no secret that their strength is in the singles, so Chisago tried to steal the match by loading up their doubles teams.

“It didn’t work,” Patchin said.  “Our underclassmen at No. 4 and No. 3 doubles stepped up.

“I am certain that we will see a similar lineup with Grand Rapids on Tuesday, and our senior doubles team will have to play big. If they don’t, we won’t make the final.”

Once the team portion was finished, the Rangers began the individual tournament on Wednesday. Dusty Boyer is the top seed at No. 1 singles, as are Spencer Conrad and Sammy Steiner at No. 1 doubles.

“If the boys play well, we have a chance to send three to the state tourney for first time ever,” Patchin noted.
