Not long ago, head coach Laura Davison was talking about how she felt her Forest Lake synchronized swimming team would do at the state meet, and she was confident the Rangers would do well.
When the 2008 championships were completed on Friday, May 23, Davison was proven to be correct, as her squad matched last spring’s effort and came in fourth place with 37 points.
In fact, there was zero change from last spring in the top four spots, as Wayzata claimed first (124 points), Stillwater was second (115), and St. Louis Park (42) took third.
“We were only five points away from taking third place at the state meet. I really thought we might take it,” Davison said.
There were plenty of near misses for the Rangers, where the girls were close to improving their final standings.
“You might also notice that we sent 13 routines to state, and 12 of them placed in the top seven,” Davison said.
“I am already looking forward to next year. It will be our team goal to take that third place spot.”
In terms of taking, Charity Riesgraf took second in figures in the short division, and McKinzie Chelberg claimed fourth in long figures.
“All three of our solos placed in the top seven,” Davison added.
As did two of the duets and all of the trio teams.
“The duet of Aayla Anderson and McKinzie Chelberg had an excellent swim at state — they moved up in the ranks from the section meet and beat out every other section for second place.”
