Forest Lake native Kourtni Lind is showing off her fancy footwork before a national audience.

The 18-year-old is a contestant in the television show “So You Think You Can Dance” airing on the FOX network.

She sparked the judges’ interest during auditions in Milwaukee, which can be viewed on YouTube. In tow was her mother, Robin Lind, who is the owner of Dance Tech located at 79 S. Lake St.

After being invited to a week of call-backs, Kourtni was chosen to continue in the Season Four competition.

In the performance round, the Top 20 finalists dance for America’s votes, and each week the six contestants comprising the bottom three couples are given a chance to perform solo routines to encourage viewers to keep them on the show. Then the judges decide the dancers that will go on and which two are eliminated.

Once the series is down to the Top 10 finalists, it’s solely up to America to decide who remains in the competition. Following the performance shows, viewers can vote for their favorite couples.

The live results shows reveal who keeps dancing and who goes home. It would appear that Lind has a good shot at staying in the competition as TV Guide named her one of the five contestants to watch.

She is certainly on the road to living her dream and not just because of her exposure on “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Last September, Lind moved to Los Angeles to work on a career as a professional dancer. She has been formally training for over 15 years in Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet and Tap. Lind also has between 5 to 6 years of training in Musical Theatre, Pointe and Hip Hop.

Much of her summer last year was spent at dance competitions. However, Lind traveled to New York City to train with one of the show’s choreographers Brian Freidman.

She was chosen, along with 49 other dancers from around the United States, to attend the summer intensive program called “Pulse,” and was awarded the title of Performer of the Year.

Tune in on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. for the 2-hour performance show, and Thursdays at 8 p.m. for the live elimination.

How to vote: Watch and dial the toll-free telephone number of the contestant(s) for whom you wish to vote. Voting will open at the end of each performance show. Results of the vote will be revealed in the special results shows that will also air on FOX each week.
