Kids in Forest Lake area learn about safety PDF Print
Thursday, 19 June 2008

6198camp.jpgNearly 130 kids from the Forest Lake area spent Tuesday and Wednesday learning about safety, thanks to the annual Forest Lake Safety Camp coordinated by the Forest Lake Police Department with help from the Forest Lake Lions Club and many area businesses. With youth volunteers from the Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau helping out, the kids spent the two days learning first aid, bicycle safety tips, Internet safety, boat safety and what to do around electricity. There was plenty of fun, too. T.C., the mascot of the Minnesota Twins, was on hand Tuesday. On Wednesday, the kids got to inspect an airport crash truck and see demonstrations on how the truck is designed to put out fires. The truck, shown here, was provided by Rosenbauer, Inc., a Wyoming company that makes and distributes fire trucks to an international customer base. The campers and volunteers were fed by the Forest Lake Lions Club both days. Forest Lake Fire & Rescue was on hand Wednesday with a number of volunteers and trucks that were used in demonstrations. North Memorial Rescue dropped in with one of its helicopters on Tuesday for some additional lessons for the campers. Wal-Mart in Forest Lake donated two bicycles and Fairview Lakes Health Services in Wyoming coordinated the purchase, delivery and fitting of 122 bicycle helmets that were given to campers.
