Legion teams goes 1-2 as Woodbury wins Post 225 tourney PDF Print

Woodbury scored three wins over the weekend to capture the annual Forest Lake American Legion Post 225 tournament championship here.

Host Forest Lake went 1-2 in the tournament, falling in the consolation championship game on Sunday.

After a first round loss to Cloquet, 4-1, Post 225 rebounded with a 14-1 rout of St. Francis. Kyle Jensen went the distance to gain the win while fanning eight.

Forest Lake collected 18 hits in the game with Neil Dunckel leading the way. He hit safely in four at-bats, scored four times and drove in three runs. Kyle Young also had two hits and knocked in two runs.

In the consolation title game, Stillwater stopped Post 225, 4-2. Ty Cremisino pitched five strong innings, but was saddled with the loss. Stillwater pushed home three runs in the first inning and Forest Lake could not overcome the early deficit.

Michael Schultz had a pair of hits and one RBI for Post 225.

In the opening round loss to Cloquet, Trever Welk had a solid outing on the mound but took the loss. Corey Manning and Dunckel each had two hits for Post 225.

Woodbury defeated the Richfield Stars for the championship. Shoreview and Cloquet battled for third place with the honor going to Shoreview.

League action

In Third District play during the past week, Post 225 split four games. Post 225 lost to Mahtomedi, 6-0, with Jensen taking the loss. Brent Kolbow had two hits in a losing effort.

In a contest against St. Paul Park, Forest Lake fell 4-3. Nick Charest worked the mound and took the loss. The offense  came from the bat of Kenny Stelter, who belted a two-run homer and also singled.

Post 225 followed the two defeats with a pair of wins.

Forest Lake knocked off Tartan, 7-3, and Michael Swenson earned the mound victory. Jensen picked up the save. Travis Evgen knocked in a pair of runs and Dunckel had two hits to help the effort.

Post 225 had an easier time against South St. Paul, winning 11-1. A 12-hit Forest Lake attack supported the pitching of Charest, who got the win.

Stelter and Rosenthal sparked the office. Stelter collected three hits and drove in two runs while Rosenthal had two hits and drove in three. Cremisino also had two hits and plated two runs for Post 225.

The full week of action pushed Forest Lake to an overall record of 5-5, 3-2  in the league.
