Town awaits annexation-merger PDF Print

Still awaiting a judicial decision on the annexation bids relate to the consolidation with the city of Wyoming, the Wyoming Town Board on June 24th dealt with business that needs to be completed.

Zoning Administrator Fred Weck compiled a list of “merger” ordinances that should be taken care of including fee schedules, codes, septic systems and licensing.

The town board was asked to review the items for discussion at their next meeting.

Street matters

The north end of West Comfort Drive from 260th Street south is said to be a “disaster” and needs a major overhaul.

Town officials estimate it will cost about $26,000 to fix the problem.  Street Superintendent Byron Olson will get some quotes by the next meeting.

The improvement to Fawn Trail has been held off because of all the recent rainstorms but will be started within the month.

Officials also agreed last week it would be prudent at this point to combine the city and township’ sealcoating projects for this year but there are two different budgets involved.

Goodview Avenue, which is shared with the city, is a high priority for the township but not the city. Olson said this avenue should have been done seven years ago.

Since it will be within the city limits whenever the annexation takes place, it was decided the township should go ahead and use the available township funds to sealcoat all of Goodview Avenue.

The town board voted to draw on the letter of credit for Liberty Ponds as it will expire on July 27th.

Even though the employees’ health care insurance expires July 1st, it will have to be renewed. The agents for the present policy and the new one with the city of Wyoming understand the temporary situation and do not expect any problems when the merger takes place.

Fire district

July 30th is the probable date for the termination of the Joint Fire Board with Forest Lake and Columbus.

Town Attorney Dave Snyder noted the termination resolution does not contain ideal text but it is acceptable.

It is also noted the township has a service contract with Chisago City with no further written agreement. It is expected the contract will continue until the actual annexation.

Supervisor Mark Utecht reported from the Rush Line meeting he attended that a lot of discussion went on concerning the rise in bus ridership.  The proposed plan would be for the bus line to start in Forest Lake,  stopping at the Transit Center, then at the harness racing track in Columbus and somewhere in White Bear Lake before ending up at Union Station in St. Paul.

It is expected that 40 percent of the ridership will be from Chisago County.
