A public hearing was held regarding the request for a dog kennel license on Wednesday, June 25, during the Columbus City Council meeting.
The request was submitted by Angela Copeland, of Columbus, after Deputy Clerk Emmy Robinson was made aware that Copeland had six dogs on her property.
According to city ordinance, dog owners must have a kennel license in their possession if they have more than three dogs. Copeland submitted her application for a dog kennel license on May 7, 2008.
After Council members discussed the request, residents were invited to voice their opinions about the matter.
Copeland’s neighbors said they had no problems with and had never had any problems with her dogs. One of Copeland’s neighbors stated that one night her and her husband’s boat was broken into and if it hadn’t been for the barking of one of Copeland’s dogs, there would be more items stolen from their boat than there already was.
No decisions were made regarding the license request.
More discussion will continue at another meeting.
