Two vehicles collided on US-8 at 8:53 a.m. Tuesday when an eastbound car went through the center median and hit a westbound pick-up truck. The collision was just east of the US-8 curve that leads to southbound I-35.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the driver of the car, Alex J. Schulte, 18, of Blaine, was extricated from the vehicle by Forest Lake Fire & Rescue and airlifted by North Air Care to North Memorial Hospital, Robbinsdale.  He was in critial condition.

The driver of the truck was identified as Grant M. Harden, 20, of Wyoming. He was taken by ambulance to Fairview Lakes Medical Center, Wyoming, with non-life threatening injuries. He was driving a parts truck owned by Wally McCarthy’s of Forest Lake.

Vandals at work

Vandals remain at work in Forest Lake, striking Monday night at an apartment complex

Chief of Police Clark Quiring said someone entered the underground garage complex at Mill Pond Apartments, 290 SW 11th Ave. and spray painted 10 cars and one motorcycle.

The incident was reported at 4 a.m. Tuesday by a complex resident who was leaving for work. Police expect damage reports from vehicle owners this week.

“We believe its possible these are the same ones who vandalized the school,” Quiring said the vandalism to Forest Lake Elementary and Sharewood Forest Community Playground a week ago.

“The markings are very similar,” he said.

Police are studying security video from the garage and continuing with the investigation, he said.

Illegal burning

Police and fire officials continue to receive reports of illegal burning at homes in the community.

Last Thursday, the fire department was called to 19 NW 5th Avenue to investigate a report of illegal burning. When the resident refused to give fire officials access to the property, police were called.

The man was given a citation for illegal burning.

Garbage dump

Also last Thursday, police received a report of illegal dumping in a construction site dumpster at 202nd St. and Fenway Avenue in the Fenway Athletic Park complex of the Headwaters Development. The construction foreman called police after seeing someone throwing bags of garbage into the dumpster.

The party who dumped the garbage was gone when police arrived, but officers found indentifying materials inside the three bags of garbage.

Police went to the man’s address in Wyoming and issued a ticket for illegal dumping.
