After a routine health department test found bacteria in the water, the Scandia Community Center had a sign on the water fountain warning people not to drink.
The city provided bottled water for groups renting the facility.
At the Tuesday, July 1 Scandia City Council meeting, City Administrator Anne Hurlburt said that after chlorinating the well and flushing the system, the water still tested positive for bacteria.
The next step is to hire a well contractor at a cost of up to $1500.
A possible cause of the contamination was a snowmobile hitting the well head last winter. A second well serving Elim Church and Gammelgarden Museum is not affected.
No one has become ill from drinking water at the Community Center.
Am-Tec Building
At the recommendation of the planning commission, the council granted to Bob and Michelle Carlson a conditional use permit to allow for a 25-feet by 50-feet accessory structure at Am-Tec Designs, 21090 Ozark Court.
The new building will replace a smaller building and will match the principal structure in design.
Comp Plan
A public hearing on the city’s comprehensive plan will be held Thursday, Aug. 21.
The council and planning commission will act on the plan at their meeting on Thursday, Sept. 18.
