Piles of dead chickens and the odor they caused created a problem stretching from Taylors Falls to Forest Lake on Wednesday. And the trucking company involved in the mess is now facing potential violations from law enforcement agencies. The problem hit Forest Lake around 9:30 p.m. when police here received a complaint from the public of a "stinking truck of dead chickens." The complaint came from the 100 block of NW 4th St. where the truck had been towed by Dan's Towing. According to Forest Lake Chief of Police Clark Quiring, the incident began earlier in the day when a semitruck traveling on TH-95 in Taylors tipped over while attempting to make the sharp turn to cross the bridge into Wisconsin and St. Croix Falls. Quiring said the rollover resulted in a good share of the dead chickens being dumped in the roadway in Taylors Falls. The Minnesota State Patrol handled the report and called Dan's Towing of Forest Lake to remove the truck. It was taken to the impound lot in Forest Lake and eventually taken away, police said. The truck reportedly was carrying total weight of 110,000 pounds and was over the weight limit, police said. The truck is owned by Gibson Transfer of Montevideo and was reportedly taking the load of dead chicken to a landfill in Wisconsin. The company confirmed on Thursday that the truck involved in the incident was theirs but no other details were available. Police here said the company may face a host of violations that include being overweight and for attempting to transfer dead animals over a state line. |
