Cliff Buchan News Editor Police in Forest Lake continue to search for a subject who was one of two men to flee on foot after a short car chase that started on I-35 late Wednesday afternoon. A Forest Lake officer on patrol at 4:30 p.m. observed a southbound vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and making improper lane changes. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle near the Forest Lake Rest Area, the driver would not pull over. Police gave chase and followed the vehicle south to the TH-97 exit where it left the freeway and turned west on CR-23. The vehicle, a 1996 Tahoe, went a short distance west and pulled off on the north side of the road near the entrance to Running Aces Harness Park in Columbus. Two men fled the vehicle on foot. Forest Lake Police Sgt. Greg Weiss said local officers were assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office and a canine unit from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The county canine team was joined by the Forest Lake canine team. The search failed to catch either of the two men, but one was arrested later in the evening, Weiss said. At 8:30 p.m., a 35-year-old Lindstrom man was apprehended on Cameo Court near the Minnesota Department of Transportation Truck Station. Weiss said the man had traveled for about a mile through swamps and wetlands before exiting a wooded area only to be greeted by a police officer. He was jailed on probable cause of fleeing a police officer on foot. Weiss said the investigation is proceeding and officers hope to make a second arrest soon. |
