Vandals smash Forest Lake Elementary School windows PDF Print

Vandals struck at Forest Lake Elementary School, 408 SW 4th St., sometime overnight on Monday, smashing out four windows.

School officials reported the damage early Tuesday morning, according to Forest Lake Police Department reports.

The damage estimate is $300 for each of the four windows, police said.

Theft reports

The police blotter was also filled with theft reports this week.

On Thursday, Aug. 14, officials at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, reported a golf cart was found abandoned on church property after being driven on the ball fields. The golf cart was found on the south side of the church.

According to Forest Lake police reports, the golf cart had been stolen from Castlewood Golf Course, 7050 Scandia Trail N. The cart was towed by Dan’s Towing and the owner was notified, police said.

On Monday, police received a report of the theft of golf clubs and bag at Tanners Brook Golf Course, 5810 N. 190th  St.

The victim, a Hugo man, said he had finished a round of golf and was in the club house when the clubs were taken. The man told police when he left the club house at 5:30 p.m., his clubs were gone.

The Mizuno golf equipment was valued at $875.

Another set of golf clubs was reported missing from a home in the 8600 block of N. 215th St. on Monday. The home owner said the set of King Cobra clubs and three Oddyssey putters were taken from the garage between August 14-15.

An unauthorized youth party at the home may be to blame for the theft, according to the police report.

A garage burglary that resulted in a $6000 loss was reported at a home in the 8600 block of Scandia Trail N. on Monday.

The home owner told police that sometime over the weekend, someone entered the garage and took a 42-inch Cub Cadet lawn mower and a 42-inch snow thrower.

A Princeton company was the victim of a theft of wire. Okay Construction told police that 280 feet of various wire was stolen from its rental space at McCullough Mini Storage, 20335 Forest Blvd. N. sometime over the weekend. The loss value was estimated at $401.

The theft may be in addition to the loss of 220 feet of wire that was discovered missing on August 11.

The wire was stolen from a company vehicle. A fence was cut to gain entry to the storage center grounds.

Police in Forest Lake recovered a car early Monday morning that had been stolen in White Bear Lake. Police here found the unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot at Stella’s Bar, 7050 Scandia Trail N. at 1:30 a.m. and confirmed that it had been stolen in White Bear Lake.

Other crimes

In other crimes, police here have turned over to state authorities the investigation of vandalism of the US-8 bridge over US-61.

At shortly past noon on Sunday, police received a report of a man spray painting an underneath section of the bridge. The man, a 45-year-old from Forest Lake, told police he was painting over profanity that had been painted on the bridge overnight.

The man told police he observed the profanity on his way to church and took the action to prevent others who may be offended.

Police here turned the matter over to the Minnesota State Patrol and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Police in Forest Lake continue to be called to illegal burns.

At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, police observed a fire with black smoke coming from it in the backyard of a home in the 4500 block of N. 232 2nd St.

At the scene, police found what was left of a chair and electronic equipment burning in the fire. A box full of electronic equipment was sitting next to the fire.

Police issued a citation for burning prohibited material and advised the home owner that it was illegal to burn those items.
