Airport open house sees record turnout PDF Print
Wednesday, 20 August 2008

8208airport.jpgIt was a record turnout for the annual open house and air show at the Daniel A. DePonti Airport in Forest Lake last Saturday. The crowd count was estimated at around 2000 visitors who turned out during the six-hour event. More than 90 airplanes were on hand during the day, including two World War II trainer planes that were available  for up close inspections. The two planes also entertained the crowd with a flying exhibition. In addition, some 200 kids ages 8 to 17 were given airplane rides as part of the Young Eagles program with local pilots donating their time and planes to take youth up in the air, many for the first time. The Forest Lake Lions were also on hand serving food. This aerial photo, courtesy of pilot Don Shipp, shows the crowd and a sample of the aircraft that was on hand for the show.
