Cliff Buchan News Editor More school vandalism has been reported in Forest Lake. Southwest Junior High School, 943 SW 9th Ave., was the latest target on Sunday night, according to Forest Lake Police Department reports. School staff reported to police early Monday morning that three windows in an east side door had been smashed out. The school also reported that a handrail by the building’s loading dock had also been broken. The school also reported tire tracks on the grass area on the south side of the junior high school. Police will increase their night patrols at schools in the city. One week earlier, Forest Lake Elementary School was hit hard by vandals. Fake cop? Police in Forest Lake and the Minnesota State Patrol are investigating a possible case of a man impersonating a police officer. Reports of a man showing up to calls for assistance have been reported in the Forest Lake and Hugo areas recently. No charges have been filed but the State Patrol is investigating the role of a Scandia man in the matter. In the most recent case on Saturday, Aug. 23, a St. Paul woman called for police help after a deer-car collision at Everton Ave. N. and W. Broadway Ave. The woman was met by a man dressed in a police type uniform, who spoke like a police officer and drove a four-door sedan that resembled a police squad car, according to reports. Police from Forest Lake arrived on the scene minutes later and questioned the man. He had a police scanner in his vehicle and presented a license from the FCC allowing the scanner to be carried, the report said. When the Forest Lake officer arrived on the scene, the man told the woman he would turn the matter over to the city police because it was their jurisdiction, the report said. According to the Forest Lake police report, the man was driving a Ford Crown Victoria that appeared to be a state auction vehicle. It carried a spot light, but no light bar. Police instructed the Scandia man to go home and turned the matter over to the State Patrol for additional investigation and any determination on possible charges.
