Chisago City will appeal the annexation ruling issued on August 15 that sent Sections 35 and 36 of Wyoming Township to Chisago City. The city council voted 5-0 on Tuesday night to take its appeal to district court. City Administrator John Pechman said it was unclear if the appeal would be made in Ramsey or Chisago County district court. The annexation ruling issued by Administrative Law Judge Steven Mihalchick was made in St. Paul. Pechman said Chisago City Mayor Don Taylor has called a press conference at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Chisago City Hall to explain details of the appeal. The annexation ruling granted Chisago City about one-third of the land area it hoped to take in the petition and denied the city's request for the award of $500,000 in Wyoming Township cash assets. Chisago City attorney Christopher Hood informed Tim Sime, attorney for the city and township of Wyoming, of the decision to appeal in a letter sent Tuesday. Hood said the council "has authorized appeal unless we can work something out." Any appeal would not halt the annexation nor the merger of the city of Wyoming and the remainder of Wyoming Township. Wyoming Mayor Sheldon Anderson said opening the matter to a new round of bargaining with Chisago City was not an option and he was told by Roger Elmore, former town board chairman, that it was time to move forward. |
