Police in Forest Lake are investigating a pair of home invasion burglaries during the past week that took place while the occupants were home and sleeping, investigator Luke Hanegraaf said.

A home in the 1100 block of SE 8th Avenue was entered during the night on Thursday, Sept. 25. Several limited edition Tiffany lamps and a number of glass and ceramic collectibles were stolen.

Police said the burglar or burglars were in the process of stealing the family’s car from the garage but left the home without doing so. A number of collectible items had been placed in the car.

Police believe entry to the home was gained through the attached garage.

Some items taken from the home have been recovered. At 6:30 p.m. on same day, a resident three blocks away reported finding a China bowl and a vase in the recycling barrel.

On Tuesday of this week, police received a second report of an overnight home invasion. This week’s report came from the 300 block of South Shore Drive.

The home was entered during the night while the occupants were sleeping. It is believed entry to the home was gained through a basement window.

Details of the burglary were not available at press time this week.

Hanegraaf warned residents to lock doors and windows and keep vehicles locked with valuables removed from inside.

2 arrested

Police in Forest Lake took two men into custody during a burglary attempt of the office complex at 840 W. Broadway Ave. on Sunday evening.

A public report of the sound of breaking glass sent police to the business location where they found two men at the scene. Arrested on felony third-degree burglary charges were Erik Zeitz, 18, of 16812 Vassar St., Columbus, and Damian Lauth, 23, of 820 SE 2nd St., Forest Lake.

Police said entry was gained through a broken door window and the offices of Lakes Life Care, First Title, Strand Closing Services, Discovery Mortgage and First Choice Title were all gone through.
