ISD 831 enrollment now 7044 after 71 student drop PDF Print
Wednesday, 08 October 2008
E nrollment is leveling off in ISD 831, the school board learned last week.

One month into the new school year, the ISD 831 enrollment is now at 7044 students in grades K-12, the administration reported on Thursday, Oct. 2. The head count was taken on September 25.

The new head count is a decrease of 71 students from the head count on September 4. Decreases are seen in all levels except the senior high ALC program.

The big  drop comes at the secondary level where it is common to see an enrollment dip as the school year continues.

The most recent student count in grades 10-12 recorded 1704 students. That’s a decrease of 62 students from the September 4 student count.

Slight decreases were recorded at the elementary and junior high school levels.

A total of 3565 students were counted at the elementary level compared to 3569 four weeks earlier, a decrease of four students.

At grades 7-9, the September 25 student count was 1686 students or five fewer than the 1691students who were counted on September 4.

Holding its own was the senior high ALC program. The alternative school program has held steady with 89 students.

House is sold

After a long and protracted process, the house built by the Forest Lake High School construction trades program class has now been sold.

The school board last week approved the sale of the home to Ms. Theresa Milota of Cedar.

The sale price, including state sales tax, was $53,143.50. The house price was $49,900.

The house was built by the high school class during the 2007-2008 school year, but could not be sold because of the tight housing market.

The school district sought bids for the house under state law throughout the summer and fall. After six bid announcements and advertisements, the buyer from Cedar came forward.

The district did not receive one bid on the home during the summer. Milota entered her bid on September 17 and a purchase agreement was signed.

Because of the protracted process in selling the house, the construction trades program has shifted gears for the 2008-2009 school year and will devote its building skills to other avenues.

Meetings

School board committee work sessions are slated at 6 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at the District Office Building, 6100 N. 210th St., with the next regular meeting of the school board at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 6.
