Mel Mettler has earned two more years as mayor of Columbus. The incumbent won his reelection bid on Tuesday in a tight race against challenger Dave Povolny. With the Columbus results reported, Mettler won the contest 1142 to 1084. Two city council incumbents ran unopposed on Tuesday. Jeff Duraine picked up 1554 votes while Denny Peterson received 1069 votes. There were 34 write-in votes. Both men earn four-year terms on the Columbus City Council. City Administrator Elizabeth Mursko said the voter turnout was in excess of 83 percent. Some 2488 ballots were cast on Tuesday from the 3000 registered voters in the city. |
