Spaghetti dinner Jan. 20 will open celebration fund drive PDF Print
Wednesday, 09 January 2008
A spaghetti dinner on Sunday, Jan. 20 will launch the 2008 public drive to raise funds for the American Legion Post 225 Fourth of July celebration. The event will take place at the Legion Post, 355 W. Broadway Ave., from 3-7 p.m. Cost is $7 per person.

The Jan. 20 event is the American Legion’s first fund-raising effort for the 2008 celebration.  The parade committee, along with the Lakes Area Business Association, will be asking community partners for donations such as gift certificates or items that represent their business for the silent auction.

Among the silent auction items donated so far are:

•A week at a condominium in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

•The chance to throw a pie in the face of Mayor Stev Stegner (possibly other Forest Lake City Council Members) and the commanders of the American Legion and VFW Post 4210, Forest Lake.

Krista Richter, parade chair, said the American Legion Parade Committee is working in conjunction with local community groups to raise the money needed for the 2008 Fourth of July celebration.

“We have a starting balance of $7000 but still need to raise an estimated $30,000 for the parade and fireworks,” Richter said.

Donations from Kwik Trip in Forest Lake and US Bank in Forest Lake have helped build the celebration bank account.

For more information about the Jan. 20 event, to make a donation to the celebration fund-drive, or to contribute an item for the Jan. 20 silent auction, contact Krista Richter 651-214-7745 or the American Legion 651-464-2600.

The theme for the 2008 celebration is “Land of the Free, Because of the Brave.”
