Cliff Buchan News Editor A drug conviction and a probation violation has landed a Forest Lake man in state prison for 134 months. Scott Michael Blahowski, 49, of 867 SE 3rd St., was handed the sentence by Judge Thomas Armstrong in Washington County District Court on April 10. Earlier this year, Blahowski was found guilty of felony first-degree controlled substance possession in charges brought by the Forest Lake Police Department. He was arrested by city police on Nov. 30, 2008 for an outstanding warrant after failing to register for probation which had been ordered by the court as part of a separate legal matter, said Chief of Police Clark Quiring. At the time of the arrest, police found quantities of methamphetamine and marijuana, leading to the possession charge. At his sentence hearing on April 10, Blahowski was given 122 months in prison on the drug conviction and an additional 12 months and one day for failure to follow court requirements to register for probation. A second Blahowski has also been handed a court conviction in Washington County District Court, but has avoided serving additional time in jail. Joseph Theodore Blahowski, 29, of Harris, who is a relative of Scott Michael Blahowski, was sentenced on Thursday, April 16 for felony receiving stolen property. He was placed on probation for five years, ordered to pay a $200 fine and restitution, serve seven days in the county jail with credit for seven days served and comply with other court provisions. On May 23, 2008, he was arrested by police in Forest Lake after a high-speed chase that ended when a car he was in crashed in the ditch along Forest Road near 181st St. in Forest Lake. Quiring said police secured a search warrant for the car and found a safe that had been stolen in Hugo a short time before the arrest. Wyoming reports Two people remain in critical condition at Twin City hospitals after being involved in a motorcycle crash in Wyoming on Friday night. Scott Dexter, interim police chief in Wyoming, said his office and the Minnesota State Patrol are investigating the crash to determine if speed or alcohol are involved and if any charges will be made. The crash was reported at 7:20 p.m. in the 7400 block of 245th Street west of US-61. Dexter said police arriving on the scene found the man and the woman lying on the roadway. The driver of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle and his female passenger both suffered serious head injuries in the crash, Dexter said. The man, 33-year-old Kenneth Thornell of Forest Lake, was taken by ground ambulance to Regions Hospital, St. Paul. His passenger, Dana Moser, 47, of Wyoming, was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. Neither Thornell or Moser were wearing helmets, Dexter said. Along with the Wyoming Police Department, others responding to the call included the Wyoming Fire Department, the Forest Lake Police Department and the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office. In a second case in Wyoming, two area men were injured in a one-car rollover on 273rd St. just north of Stars and Strikes Entertainment Center. Dexter said police were called to the scene at 11:40 p.m. on April 16. He said the vehicle carrying the two men failed to make a curve to the east, left the road and rolled. Dexter said Branden Imler, 23, of Wyoming, and David Welch, 22, of Forest Lake, were taken by ambulance to Regions Hospital, St. Paul, with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation to determine if speed and alcohol may be involved, Dexter said. |
