A week after the boys swimming and diving team went full bore with three meets in seven days, Forest Lake’s schedule eased up during the second week of January.
There was only Hastings to deal with, and even that lacked a diving competition. So on Jan. 8 it was all up to the swimmers, who despite turning in yet another splendid performance, at the end of the night, the Rangers finished 10 points shy of the host Raiders.
“It was an exciting meet up to the very last event,” Forest Lake head swim coach Barb Vailodash shared. “Our team did really well.”
The highlights could start with the 200 freestyle relay team (Kevin Brennhofer, Frank O’Neil, Elijah Miller and John Goossens), as the boys barely reached to a first place finish. The very tip of a finger might have been the difference in this one.
Miller also came in first in the 100 breaststroke, and snagged a second place finish in the 200 IM.
The 200 medley relay, comprised of Kevin Lalla, Brennhofer, Zach Curtis and O’Neil, pulled in with a second, and they were joined in the second slot by Goossens (50 free and 100 butterfly); O’Neil (100 freestyle); Peter Sandager (500 free); and the quartet of Clint Krummi, Sandager, Miller and Goossens in the 400 freestyle relay.
“Many members finished in third and fourth place,” Vailodash added. “Overall, the times keep dropping, and many swimmers (are) qualifying for sections.”
*In the Jan. 10 sports section, the Forest Lake Times incorrectly stated the Roseville Raiders victory over the Forest Lake swimming and diving team. The Rangers won the meet, 102 to 84.
