FLAFA cancels January meeting

The Forest Lake Fastpitch Association (FLAFA) holds its monthly meeting on the third Thursday of each month at Stella's (formerly Dummys) at 7 p.m. The meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 17 has been canceled. The next meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 21.

The FLAFA is also seeking coaches for the upcoming 2008 season. Applications can be downloaded at www.FLAFA.org, or Jean Modjeski can be contacted at 651-755-6498. The application deadline is Thursday, Jan. 31.

Boys basketball team pancake breakfast at Applebee's, Jan. 19

The Forest Lake High School boys basketball team will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser at the Forest Lake Applebee’s on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 8 – 10 a.m. The cost $5 per ticket. Wrestling's Alumni Night, Jan. 25

On Friday, Jan. 25, as part of the Forest Lake wrestling team's "Main Event” match against No. 2 ranked Hastings, the Rangers are also holding Alumni Night. All wrestling alums are invited to attend, including wrestlers, coaches, cheerleaders, statisticians and managers. Swim teams need assistance

The Forest Lake aquatic teams could use your help. After the Wavemakers booster club purchased the new scoreboard and sound system, they now have an understandable shortage in funds. The school district is unable to lend support, but the teams' are now in need of basic items.

• Eight gymnastics mats (bi-folds, 10x3)
• Free weights. ie., 5, 10, 15-pound hand weights
• Padded weight bench
• Aerobic steps (height of 10" or more)
• Jump ropes, big enough for tall boys
• Rubber dot mats (rubber pads that are approximately 1/2" thick. 4x4)
 • New or used camera and TiVo system.

Youth Night at girls basketball

Attention all basketball players: Tuesday, Jan. 29 is Youth Night at the Forest Lake girls basketball game. The first 50 youth at the game will receive a free T-shirt. For those who are a part of Ranger Nation, you are invited to a free pizza party at 6:30 p.m. in the Forest Lake Cafeteria. Make sure you show your support with your gold, Ranger Nation T-shirt.

'Fishapalooza' arrives Feb. 16

On Saturday, Feb. 16, Ice Hole Productions presents the Forest Lake VFW Post 4210 2008 Fishapalooza Ice Fishing Contest. Tickets of $30 are on sale now. The price increases to $40 on Sunday, Jan. 27. Family open gym in Scandia

The Scandia Park and Recreation Committee is sponsoring an Open Gym program at Scandia Elementary School in January. The gym will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on all four Saturdays in January (5, 12, 19 and 26). Play games like dodgeball, capture the flag, basketball and more. Parents need to stay to supervise their own children and up to five friends, for a maximum of six children per parent. Volunteers will be on duty to issue equipment and assist with supervision. Families interested in playing basketball should bring their own ball (a limited number will be available.) This is a drop-in program so no pre-registration is necessary. 'Bear'ly Open ice golf tourney

White Bear Events and the White Bear Lake Rotary Club are  working together to put on the “hottest” event of the season — the ‘BEAR’ly Open Ice Golf Tournament. The ‘BEAR’ly Open Golf Tournament, an official St. Paul Winter Carnival Event, is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26, and will take place on the ice at Ramsey County Beach in White Bear Lake at 10 a.m. There will be two 9-hole courses. Form your own foursome; the tournament is open to all ages. Registration is limited to 500 adventurous golfers; no golfing experience necessary.
