Homeowners struggling to make mortgage payments are now able to meet with a counselor at the Hugo City Hall. Appointments will be scheduled the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Homeowners from the northern region of Washington County have requested appointments closer to home. As a result, the Washington County HRA is partnering with the city of Hugo to provide a satellite office at City Hall, which is located 14669 Fitzgerald Avenue North in Hugo. Counselors work one-on-one with homeowners to assess their situation and develop a plan to help people stay in their homes. Counselors will: • Explain the foreclosure process and its legal time frames • Assess the homeowner’s overall household budget and financial situation • Act as an advocate for the homeowner in negotiating with loan servicers and where necessary refer the homeowner to other community resources. The Washington County HRA also offers a first-time homebuyer education class call Home Stretch once a month and one-on-one counseling to those preparing to purchase a home. For more information, call the Washington County HRA at 651-458-0936 ext. 542. Homeowners will be instructed to leave their name and number and a counselor will call them within 24 business hours to schedule an appointment. |
