Two couples from Forest Lake were involved in a two-car crash in Pierce County of western Wisconsin on Saturday morning that resulted in serious injuries to two teens from Prescott, WI. The crash happened at 11:33 a.m. on US-10 at the junction of CR-QQ in Oak Grove Township which is near Prescott. According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the two Forest Lake couples, Dennis and Judy Johnson and Andris and Colleen Kauls, were riding in a 2003 Ford Expedition driven by Dennis Johnson. The Johnson vehicle was traveling east on US-10 when it collided with a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Joshua R. Hanestad, 17, of Prescott. Hanestad was entering the intersection from CR-QQ when the collision took place, the state patrol said in a release. The four teens in the Hanestad vehicle all required air evacuation to hospitals in the Twin Cities. In addition to the driver, the other youth from Prescott were identified as: Eric J. Glaser, 16; Kerary D. Spindler, 15; and Matthew M. Pechacek, 16. LifeLink, Mayo 1 and North Memorial air ambulances were dispatched to the scene. The four teens were flown to trauma centers at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, and Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis. Glaser and Spindler were in critical condition, the state patrol release said. Andris Kauls, 64, and Colleen Kauls, 63, were taken by ground ambulance to River Falls Area Hospital, River Falls, WI, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries, the state patrol said. The Johnsons did not require hospital treatment. The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol. The state patrol was assisted at the scene by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, police, fire and EMS personnel from Prescott, EMS personnel from Ellsworth and police and EMS personnel from River Falls. |
