There will be three new members of the Forest Lake School District 831 Board of Education in January. Challengers Kathy Bystrom, Karen Morehead and Erin Turner were swept into office on Tuesday while the two incumbents in the race, David Gay and Eric Langness, were defeated. The three victors claim four-year school board terms.
Karen Morehead, left, has served nine years on the Forest Lake School and she will return for another four-year term starting in January. Bystrom led all vote getters. She won her school board term with a total of 2113 votes. Bystrom is a 1976 Forest Lake High School graduate and former youth coordinator in the local Community Education program for District 831. Morehead, who previously served nine years on the school board, came in second with 2073 votes. Turner, another Forest Lake High School graduate and private practice attorney in Forest Lake, claimed her term on the school board with a third-place total of 2049 votes. Both Gay and Langness are in the fourth and final year of four-year terms on the school board. Gay was fourth in the contest with 1204 votes. Langness finished last with 1157 votes. Julie Corcoran, a current member of the school board, did not run for reelection.
Erin Turner, left, a 1993 Forest Lake High School graduate, claimed a seat on the Forest Lake School Board in Tuesday's election. |
