Jennifer Larson Community Editor This year’s fall musical presented by the Forest Lake High School drama department is based on a familiar children’s fairytale that incorporates a message of tolerance. “HONK!”, which opens this weekend, is an adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson story “The Ugly Duckling.” The music and lyrics are by the British songwriting duo, Anthony Drewe and George Stiles. Gweir Glewwe, a senior at FLHS, plays the lead role of Ugly. Before the duckling discovers his inner beauty when he becomes a swan, Glewwe says Ugly meets a lot of crazy characters after being ostracized for his lack of beauty. Glewwe won’t actually be wearing feathers to look the part. He said the costume is symbolic of Ugly’s awkwardness as a duckling. The play is directed by Tim Newcomb, a teacher at FLHS. The show runs Nov. 6-7 and Nov. 12-14 at 7:30 p.m. each evening in the high school auditorium. There will be a matinee performance at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 15. Ticket prices are $5 for students/seniors, $6 adults and $10 for patrons. Tickets may be purchased at the door, in the FLHS Activities Office or by calling 651-982-8476. The proceeds from the reserved patron seating tickets go to student scholarships. Forest Lake High School is located at 6101 Scandia Trail N. |
