A police pursuit that started in Hugo early on Wednesday ended in Forest Lake when officers here forced the car off Fenway Avenue, just south of TH-97. The incident began in Hugo shortly after midnight when a Washington County deputy sheriff attempted to stop a vehicle on suspicion of drunk driving. The vehicle fled north on US-61.
According to Forest Lake Chief of Police Clark Quiring, city officers deployed stop sticks at US-61 and 202nd St. at 12:09 a.m. The stop sticks flattened all four tires on the vehicle, the chief said. The car continued north on US-61 before heading west on TH-97. At Fenway, the car turned south where it was pitted and pushed off the road by a Forest Lake squad car.,
The driver, a 44-year-old Forest Lake man who lives on Fenston Ave. N., was arrested and taken to the Washington County Jail in Stillwater pending formal charges that will likely include fleeing police, Quiring said. There were no injuries in the pursuit, but one Forest Lake squad car received minor front-end damage while forcing the car from the road.
