It was a busy month for DWI enforcement in Forest Lake last month as city officers charged 17 motorists with driving while intoxicated, Chief of Police Clark Quiring said on Friday. The arrests include five that took place during the day. The final DWI arrest of the month came at 2:12 p.m. on Thursday when a 44-year-old city woman was arrested in the 20000 block of Georgia Ave. N. Police responded to an anonymous caller who observed the woman's car fail to stop for a stop sign. The incident took place near Forest Lake High School and Century Junior High School, the chief said. The woman tested at .27, three times higher than the state legal DWI limit of .08, the chief said.
City officers also assisted other departments with three additional drunk-driver arrests in the final two days of the month. Two of the arrests involved motorists from Hugo and were in partnership with the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Late Thursday night Forest Lake officers were called to assist the Chisago County Sheriff's Office. At 12:45 a.m. on Friday, city officers stopped a vehicle that had traveled south from Wyoming. The vehicle was stopped on 245th St. in the area that borders on Forest Lake, Columbus and Wyoming Township. The driver was taken to jail in Center City on second-degree DWI, Quiring said. The vehicle driven by the suspect had heavy front-end and tire damage.
