Masquers Theatre Company, now in its 31st year, is expanding its horizons this season in a new and “fantastic” way. Their winter production of the musical The Fantasticks is being presented as a dinner theatre, in partnership with Forest Lake restaurant Stella’s on 97, co-owned by Max Stephens and Bill Lawson.
“This is a new and exciting venture for Masquers,” said show co-producer Patty Stewart. “We’ve never tried anything like this before.”
Ironwood Banquet Center (adjacent to Stella’s on 97) is playing home to The Fantasticks, which runs weekends Feb. 14 through March 2. With tickets priced at only $25 for adults and $20 for children and seniors, Masquers is hoping to provide an economical and, more importantly, local alternative to metro venues such as Chanhassen Dinner Theater. “Show only” tickets are available for $18.
A show for all ages, The Fantasticks has delighted audiences the world over with its classic coming-of-age story. Two matchmaking fathers scheme to get their children to fall in love, but once they do, the real drama begins.
Classic songs such as “Try to Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain” have made The Fantasticks a hit, including its off-Broadway venue where it played over 42 years for a record-shattering 17,162 performances.
Show dates are Feb. 14-16, 22-23, 29 and March 1 at 7:30 p.m., and Feb. 24 and March 2 at 2:00 p.m. Dinner will be seated 1 hour before the performance.
Seating is limited, so get your tickets online at www.masquerstheatre.org or at The Yellow Bus Children’s Shoppe in Forest Lake (651) 464-2112. Don’t miss your opportunity to see this “fantastic” show!
