Ruby, the pitbull service dog from Scandia who reached fame last year by becoming a finalist for Milk-Bone’s spokesdog of the year, is now cancer free. Ruby’s full-time companion, Pat Bettendorf, reported on Tuesday that Ruby’s second round of surgery has removed all cancerous tissue from the dog’s left leg. The cancer was discovered last summer and some of her treatments have been covered by an anonymous fan from New York who has followed the dog’s story which Bettendorf received from an animal shelter as a puppy.
