It’s opening weekend for the Masquers Theater Company winter dinner theatre production of the 1960s pop musical “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?” directed by Janice Murphy. The high-energy show at Stella’s in Forest Lake will open this Friday night. Three Masquers newcomers join one veteran in a cast of talented women. Stephanie Johnson of Blaine will be playing the role of Sally, a sassy and liberated woman. Johnson was last seen on the Masquers stage in the ensemble of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” She is the daughter of Natalie and Craig Johnson of Blaine. Laura Langreck of Scandia is taking on the role of Millie, a bride-to-be, and the perfect picture of a ‘60s homemaker. She is a stay-at-home mother of two boys, Jackson and Rhett. The role of DeeDee, an innocent and irrepressible romantic, will be portrayed by Lauren Cain of Lino Lakes. Cain is a senior at Centennial High School, where she recently played the lead, Toffee, in “Zombie Prom.” Another Masquers newcomer is Emily Temple of Rosemount, who joins the cast in the role of Florence, a shy dreamer. Temple is a full-time student at the University of St. Thomas, where she is pursuing a degree in vocal performance. Tickets are on sale now for “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?” and can be purchased in several easy ways. Patrons can go to www.masquerstheatre.org/tickets to securely purchase their seats or reserve them by e-mail. Tickets can also be reserved by calling Masquers box office at 651-464-5823. “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?” runs weekends Feb. 5 – 27 at The Event Center at Stella’s on 97. Tickets (including dinner) are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors (60+) and children (12 and under). A show-only option is also available for $18 (all ages). For the dinner, guests can choose from four dinner options: Tortellini straw and hay, chicken parmesan, coconut-crusted tilapia, or sirloin steak with burgundy marshoom sauce. Tickets remain for all shows, but reservations are recommended, so don’t be left out in the cold for this fun-filled dinner show. “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?” is a high-energy show about four young women in 1966, each with their own perspectives and dreams about love. The production is packed full of classic ‘60s pop tunes like “My Boy Lollipop,” “I Will Follow Him,” “Hurt So Bad,” and “He’s A Rebel,” which means the spunky characters of “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?” are sure to entertain. |
