Wyoming Mayor Sheldon Anderson's self-imposed exile on the roof of Wyoming City Hall to raise funds for the Forest Lake Teen Center took a positive turn Wednesday night. The Wyoming City Council, meeting in regular session because of the Feb. 5 precinct caucus, agreed in principle to fund $10,000 to the teen center operation in 2008. The funding vote will come back to a final council vote on a formal resolution at the regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The city will use revenue from local charitable gambling payments to fund the teen center.
The pledge in essence pushes the mayor's fund drive total to $20,000. He is living in a tent on the roof of city hall to raise awareness to the funding needs of the teen center. The goal is to raise $35,000 to keep the center open. The teen center is a program offered by Community Education of ISD 831 and is an afternoon place for kids to meet with friends and take part in structured activities. The mayor's drive from the Wyoming Hilton, his self-named tent, also received good news on Wednesday when Polaris of Wyoming presented a check for $1000.
