The winners have been named for the Forest Lake American Legion Post 225 annual Oratorical/Speech Competition.

First place winner Samantha Labelle of Forest Lake received a scholarship check for $500. 

She represented Forest Lake at the Third District Competition, also hosted at American Legion Post 225, by District Vice Commander Ron Weiss. Labelle placed third at the district competition on Jan. 5.

Second place runner-up was Emily Spaingers, who won the post competition last year. She went on to come in a percentage point short at the district competition.

Spaingers received a $300 scholarship check and will be the back up if the winner cannot attend.

Third place was awarded to Carmen McCollough, a 10th grader at Forest Lake High School.

Weiss said with two more years for McCollough to prepare, she should be able to compete to win competitions.
