FL City Council rescinds decision on monument sign PDF Print

During the Monday, Feb. 11 regular meeting, the Forest Lake City Council rescinded an earlier motion to construct a monument sign on TH-97 in conjunction with Kwik Trip.

According to City Administrator Chip Robinson, last year the council agreed to build an entrance sign in the Springbrook Development at the intersection of Everton Ave.

The monument sign, estimated to cost between $30,000 to $40,000, would welcome people to Forest Lake as well as define the city’s borders.

Although the council is in favor of erecting entrance signs so people know where they are, Robinson said the city would not get the bang for their buck by placing the monument sign at the proposed location.

He noted there is  an electrical box that would obscure the entrance sign at that corner, which wasn’t there when the council made its decision.

“We should move it farther west where the actual border is,” Robinson said.

Councilwoman Judy Bull agreed, suggesting the city of Forest Lake logo be included in the design.

In other news from the meeting, the council asked the Forest Lake Area Athletic Association – the organization behind construction of the sports complex – to work with city staff and provide a detailed list of fees they would like the city council to consider waiving at the next meeting.

The council will also consider the sports complex grounds lease agreement at that time.
