Bo Bogotty has made a successful return to the city council after suffering a stroke, but now the Forest Lake man is facing a legal battle in court.
Bogotty, 56, of 21080 Floral Bay Drive, has been charged in Washington County District Court for knowingly allowing an underage employee to serve alcohol. The charge is a misdemeanor for employment of a minor to serve intoxicating liquor.
The charges stem to an incident last July at Upper Deck and Players Beach Club, 55 S. Lake St. Police in Forest Lake received two complaints that a 17-year-old North Branch female had been hired by Bogotty and was serving alcohol to customers.
The Bogotty family owns and operates the bar and restaurant. The on-sale liquor license is reportedly in the name of Bogotty’s wife, Vicki.
After its initial investigation into the public complaints, city police here turned the matter over to the Stillwater city attorney for review to avoid any conflict of interest due to Bogotty’s service on the Forest Lake City Council.
The criminal complaint filed in the case says Bogotty knowingly was aware that the North Branch youth was underage and could not legally serve alcohol to customers.
Court dates are pending. If convicted, Bogotty could be fined up to $1000 and/or sentenced to one year in jail.
He was reinstated to the city council here on Feb. 11 after being absent for about five months. He suffered a stroke last September and recently completed rehabilitation at Birchwood Health Care Center here.
Slick roads in FL
Slick roads in Forest Lake early Tuesday contributed to three motor vehicle crashes.
According to city police reports, two separate crashes were reported on TH-97 between Fenway and Everton Avenues around 8 a.m. No serious injuries were reported.
At 7:49 a.m., two vehicles were involved in a crash on southbound I-35 at the Broadway exit to Forest Lake. A pregnant woman was transported to a hospital for crash-related injuries, police said.
Crime reports
In other crimes, police in Forest Lake are:
•Investigating the report of a theft of a purse from an unlocked car parked in the 600 block of SE 2nd St. overnight on Sunday. A 20-year-old Wyoming woman was the victim.
•Investigating the theft of $400 in fishing equipment from ice house on Clear Lake. The door to the fish house had been pried open. The theft took place sometime between Feb. 13-16, police were told.
•Investigating the theft of a tire and rim from a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup in the 21000 block of Healy Ave. N. over the weekend. Police said it appeared the thieves were in the process of taking all four tires and rims when a jack gave way and dropped the truck to the ground.
