Wednesday, 05 December 2007
American Legion Post 225 in Forest Lake will host this year’s state Pearl Harbor Day event.

The observance, which is program of the American Legion Department of Minnesota, takes place Saturday, Dec. 8.

State Legion Commander Jim Copher will lead a delegation of state and district officials who will be in Forest Lake on Saturday. State and district members of the women’s auxiliary will also attend.

The day’s event begins at 3 p.m. with membership turn-in and registration. The social hour begins at 4 p.m. with dinner at 5 p.m.

A special program will follow the dinner.

The event is in honor of the day that marks the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on the U.S. Naval base in Hawaii and the  entry of United States in World War II.

As many as 300 Legion and Auxiliary members are expected to attend the event, said Ron Weiss, Post 225 member and Third District vice commander. He is event chair.

“This is a big honor for the Forest Lake Legion since it has been 17 years since the rally has been hosted by the Forest Lake Post,” Weiss said.

Along with Copher, state membership director Mike Shaffer and state adjutant Lyle Foltz are slated to attend Saturday’s Pearl Harbor Day event.

Tickets are $12 a person and are still available at Post 225, 355 W. Broadway Ave.
