Bob Marzolf of Scandia, a teacher at Forest Lake High School, has been named 2007 FFA Advisor of the Year.
The Minnesota Farm Bureau Foundation recognized and awarded outstanding
agricultural professionals during the Minnesota Farm Bureau’s Annual
Meeting.
Recognition was given during the awards banquet on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Sheraton Hotel in Bloomington.
Marzolf has served as an agricultural instructor and FFA advisor for 30
years. Currently, he teaches and advises approximately 1000 students
in agricultural education at Forest Lake High School.
Marzolf said he believes FFA helps teach civic responsibility to youth,
along with a sense of community and ultimately self-gratification.
“I am honored to receive this award and am grateful to Farm Bureau for
promoting the industry of agriculture and agricultural education,”
Marzolf said.
The high school agricultural education department offers courses and
internship opportunities in the areas of animal science, plant
science, natural resource science, mechanics, business, and leadership
development.
Students are also members of the Forest Lake FFA Chapter.
“Agricultural Education programs at the secondary and post-secondary
levels must continue to reach out to all students to improve
understanding and enable career opportunities,” Marzolf said.
“Agriculture plays a huge role in Minnesota with respect to the
contributions it makes to the economy and the work forces and our task
is to communicate this positive message to our young people.”
Award winners are nominated by their county Farm Bureaus.
For information about nominating an agriculture communicator, FFA
advisor or Extension educator for next year’s award, contact the
county Farm Bureau office.
Farm Bureau is the largest general farm organization in Minnesota.
Nationwide, the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) has over six
million members in approximately 2800 county Farm Bureaus.
