Breanna Fuss of Forest Lake is hoping that an online talent contest “Big Shot Live” will lead to stardom.
The 17-year old earned a free trip to California last month, receiving enough votes after a dance performance video of her was posted on the Web. The contest has seven talent categories for participants to choose from. Her sister, Ashlee, is also competing as a singer as well.
“Honestly, it was just for fun,” Fuss said, of the contest. “I’ve been dancing for 15 years so it’s something that has always been a part of my life.”
Big Shot Live is the first-ever national online talent search that gives one person, every day, the chance to audition in front of a Hollywood powerbroker for entertainment industry opportunities ranging from a guest role on a television show or in a movie, to modeling in a commercial advertisement or dancing in a music video.
Fuss’s road to Hollywood was filmed and available to view on the Internet.
On Feb. 11, she met with Todd Glass, who is one of the hosts on Big Shot. Fuss said her dream is to dance in a movie like “Hairspray” or “High School Musical.”
After talking with him briefly, they were off to meet Andrew Jacobs, an agent at McDonald Selznick Associates.
He told her his thoughts on Fuss’s performance after she danced improv in his office. From there, Jacobs sent Fuss to Carlton Wilborn, who he represents.
Wilborn is a choreographer and is putting together a multi-media dance show to music he produced. He taught Fuss some choreography from the show.
“He wants me to come back and work with him but there is something I have to do first,” she said.
“The episode Big Shot taped of me, which is them following me around and meeting all these people, needs to be viewed many times, like thousands.
Then I will be flown back out, get to work with Carlton and audition for more jobs.”
Fuss said the reality is that a dancers career is short-lived. So she is equally ambitious about the prospect of breaking into the entertainment industry.
Not only is Fuss a student at Legacy Dance Studio in Oakdale but she also takes vocal and acting lessons. Fuss really is the epitome of a triple threat.
After her freshman year at Century Junior High School, she enrolled in the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists to pursue her passion.
And if her dream to be on the big screen doesn’t pan out, Fuss is not sweating it.
She has already declared her major as broadcast journalism even before attending the University of Minnesota for the 2008-2009 school year.
To see that Fuss gets another chance to go to California, go to www.bigshotlive.com, enter the zip code 55025, which will go directly to the KARE11 Web site.
From there click on Wednesday, which is the dancing category. To play Fuss’ episode, select Bre17 to watch. There is a link for viewers to send it out to their family and friends.
“The more views I get,” Fuss said, “the better chance I have of going back out there, which would be incredible.”
