The Rock's women's golf league

The Castlewood Women’s Golf League will hold an informational meeting on Thursday, March 20 at 7 p.m. at Stella’s on 97. Women golfers of all abilities are invited to attend and join the league. New players are definitely welcome. Golfers are welcome to form their own team or league organizers will help individuals find a place on a team at the meeting. The league plays on Thursday nights at Castlewood Golf Course in Forest Lake, with tee-off at 5:30 p.m. League play follows a match-play format, where two players from a team compete against two players from another team each week.

League play starts in late April and runs every week through early September. The cost is $80 league fee per player plus $1000 per team for greens fees (split between 4-6 players per team). The individual league fee includes handicapping fees with the Minnesota Golf Association, weekly event prizes, championship fee and an end-of-season banquet and prizes. FLAFA's monthly meeting

The Forest Lake Fastpitch Association (FLAFA) holds its monthly meeting on the third Thursday of each month at Stella's  on 97 at 7 p.m. The next meeting is Thursday, March 20.

Forest Lake golf swap and expo

Mark your calendars for this Saturday, March 22 as the Forest Lake High School golf teams are planning a Golf Swap and Expo in the field house from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Bring the whole family to FLHS, where you can purchase golf equipment and apparel; receive golf lessons from the high school golf team members; and visit with golf vendors. If you have golf equipment or apparel that you would like to consign or  donate, drop off is at the high school on Friday, March 21  from 5 - 8 p.m.

Spring coaches/parents meeting

The final two teams to meet for the spring season are boys tennis and boys track.

•Tennis: Monday, March 24 at 2:45 p.m. in the FLHS Health Room.
•Boys Track: Wednesday, March 26 at 5 p.m. in the FLHS Room 601.

Tanners Brook golf leagues

Tanners Brook Golf Course is now accepting applications for its 2008 Men's, Women's and Couples leagues. League play begins in May and runs through August. For more information, please contact Craig at 651-464-2300.

Community Ed's elementary and junior high baseball registration

Students in grades K-6 may still register for the Community Education Elementary Baseball Program. The season starts in mid-April and ends in early July. Cost to participate is $69 through March 24, or $89 after the early registration period.  Placement on a team is not guaranteed after March 24.

The Northstar Baseball League is open to students in grades 7-9 who are interested in playing summer rec baseball. Teams play 16 games between May 19 and August 1 against other Forest Lake teams and teams in other north metro communities.  Cost is $150 before April 3, or $170 after the early registration period. Placement on a team is not guaranteed after April 3.

Lighting test at harness track

Running Aces Harness Park, located at 15201 Zurich St., Columbus, will be testing the exterior track lighting system on Monday, March 24 and Tuesday, March 25. For these two consecutive days the track lights will be on from dusk until dawn of the next day.

FLAAA meets on 2nd Tuesday

The FLAAA holds its regular monthly meeting the second Tuesday of each month at The Cornerstone in Wyoming at 7 p.m. Questions about the FLAAA or meetings call Terri or Larry Porter at 651-464-8094. The next meeting is Tuesday, April 8.

Wildlife Center's Wine for Wolves

The Wildlife Science Center is holding its annual Wine For the Wolves Wine Tasting and Silent Auction on Friday, April 11 at American Legion Post 225 in Forest Lake. The Wildlife Science Center’s ambassador birds of prey will be on hand, and a  silent auction will also be held. All proceeds will benefit the Wildlife Science Center. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. www.wildlifesciencecenter.org.

'Silvera' women's running group

A new group for beginning to intermediate runners will be starting up on April 12 in Forest Lake. Runners will walk and jog their way to their first 5K. Class will utilize interval training (combination of walking, jogging and running) for increased fat burning. Jogging strollers welcome. Workouts will take place on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 9 a.m., on the Hardwood Creek Trail along HWY 61. The optional Officer Silvera Memorial Run will take place on Saturday, August 23. The cost for 18 weeks is $149 for two runs a week and $99 for one per week. Twenty percent of class profits is going to the Honduras Water Project, bringing clean drinking water to people in need (see www.shawnsilvera.org/water-project.aspx). FLBA baseball tryouts

•14-year-olds (FLHS fields): Saturday, April 12, from 12:30-3 p.m.

Swimming and diving clinic

Fifth and 6th graders, and level 5 and 6 swimmers are invited to attend the third annual Swimming and Diving Clinic.

Sundays, April 13, 20 and 27 at Southwest Jr. High, 943 9th Ave., Forest Lake. Cost is $20 for the clinic, plus bonus gift. Time: 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Be a Forest Lake Ranger swimmer and/or diver for a day.  On April 13 and 20, the high school varsity boys and girls swimming and diving teams will teach the fundamentals of their respective sport. For swimming, the clinic will include the four competitive strokes, turns and starting block take-offs, whereas the divers will be teaching diving board approaches. On April 27 all participants are invited back to join the varsity swimmers and divers in a mock meet. Included with the registration is a bonus gift for all participants (1 per participant).
Registration deadline is Thursday, April 10.

OMC hosts 5K run/walk

Spring is just around the corner and a great way to kick start your fitness goals is at the Healthy Heart 5K Run/Walk, hosted by Osceola Medical Center.  This event is April 19. Participants will take a scenic route through the community of Osceola starting at the high school. Individuals, families and teams are invited to participate. The run/walk is hosted by OMC, a critical access hospital and clinic along the St. Croix River in Osceola. Registration starts at 7 a.m.; the race starts at 8:30 a.m. Awards will be presented on or around 9:30 a.m. Entry fees are $15 by April 4 and $20 after April 4 and on race day.

Proceeds of the event will go to the Think Pink Campaign, which is raising money for the region’s first digital mammography unit. The Think Pink Campaign is sponsored by the Osceola Community Health Foundation.
