Forest Lake High School band travels to Europe PDF Print
Wednesday, 26 March 2008
The Forest Lake High School Wind Band will participate in a European concert and cultural study tour  March 28 to April 12.

The itinerary will include Germany, Austria and Italy with performances and visits to the cities and surrounding areas of Frankfurt, Munich, Salzburg, Venice and Florence.

“Through our visits we seek an enhanced respect for other cultures, seek to think less provincially, and share a greater hope for world peace,” said Rich Hahn, band director.

“It is my belief that in our own way, through our music and shared experiences, we are all progressing toward the same goals.”

The 51 member ensemble has prepared a varied and international repertoire featuring the music of American composers Sousa, Curnow, Zdechlik and Bernstein.

The concert also features trombone soloist Tim Endorf and a Dixieland combo with band, in addition to internationally recognized selections.

The ensemble (pictured at right) will present one concert in Italy in the city of Cairo-Montenotte and four concerts in Germany in the cities of Otterfing, Neumarkt and Nidderau.

The Forest Lake band has previously completed concert tours to Scandinavia in 1991, 2000 and 2005; and Central Europe in 1997 and 2003.

Follow the tour online, with updates on activities and experiences posted on the high school’s Web site at http://hs.forestlake.k12.mn.us.

Students and chaperones will be taking photographs, writing captions and maybe a brief paragraph or two of the day’s events. Postings will be placed on the site as soon as possible.
