An investigation into vandalism at Forest Lake High School has resulted in criminal charges against three juvenile boys. Charges are also being explored against two other boys who are part of the police probe, said Chief of Police Clark Quiring.
The investigation stems from a night incident on March 20-21 when a bowling ball was thrown through an east side window at the high school, 6101 Scandia Trail N. Rocks were also thrown through a window of the parking lot guard shack on the same evening.
Quiring said that during the course of the investigation, police also determined that four of the five juveniles were involved in multiple thefts from vehicles throughout the city.
The bowling ball that was found in the classroom was stolen from a home just south and east of the high school, the chief confirmed.
One youth has been charged with first-degree criminal damage to property and motor vehicle tampering. Two others were given juvenile citations for misdemeanor theft and motor vehicle tampering, the chief said.
A fourth juvenile who was driving a vehicle used by the three other juveniles is being investigated for possible charges, police said.
Items taken from a number of the vehicle thefts were recovered at the Forest Lake home of a fifth juvenile student. He has not been charged but is subject to additional investigation, the chief said.
All five youth involved in the incident are 15 and 16 years old. Two are from Forest Lake, two are from Wyoming and one is from Scandia.
3 underage
drinking incidents
Police were also kept busy during the past week with three incidents involving underage consumption of alcohol and minors involved in consumption of alcohol.
At 1:55 a.m., police responded to an alarm company call to investigate a fire alarm sounding in the 5600 block of N. 220th St. At the home, police found a party in progress with underage youth in attendance.
Three underage girls and four underage girls were given tickets for underage consumption. Four of those ticketed were from Forest Lake while the remaining three were from Columbus, Wyoming and Hudson, WI. Four adults at the scene were not charged.
Officers were involved in two more incidents involving underage drinking, the first reported in the 600 block of SW Apartment lane just past midnight on Saturday, March 30.
In the first call, police wrote four juvenile underage consumption tickets and held the youth at the city police station until parents could arrive and take them home. That call was at 12:01 a.m.
At 12:43 a.m., police were handed a second incident when they came upon an intoxicated youth lying in the street in the 700 block of SW Apartment Lane.
Two juveniles were tagged for underage consumption and held for their parents at the city police station.
FL man hurt in Farm accident
A Forest Lake man suffered serious injuries on Wednesday, March 26 when he was trampled by a cow that became enraged when farm workers tried to separate the cow from a recently born calf.
Forest Lake police and medical personnel were called to 10066 N. 180th St. shortly after 7 a.m. where they found Mario Lopez, 42, injured. Lopez was attempting to separate the cow and calf when the cow became enraged and pinned Lopez to a fence causing serious injuries, police said.
Lopez was transported by North Air Care to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale with a possible broken back, police said. Lopez was pulled from the barnyard by a second farm worker who was on the scene, police said.
The small farm is located east of US-61 in Forest Lake on the city’s southern border with Hugo.
Garage burglary
A Forest Lake couple who returned to their home in the 21000 Healy Ave. N. early Tuesday morning found their garage had been hit by burglars.
