Hard to figure

What is it about trespassing signs that humans can’t understand?

What is it about privacy that humans can’t understand?

Evidently people cannot mind their own business.

When the backhoe was here on Charme Cheval Farm March 26, right away people are calling the inspector in Wyoming Township  and he makes a dash down here ignoring the “No trespassing” signs that are up.

I believe that includes  everyone. Unless they think they have a right here and are then welcome to help pay taxes.

It’s not our fault that permits weren’t granted in a timely matter. Don’t worry about anyone building on our land in back, not that it’s anyone’s business either.

That land floods easily and guess where  all the water comes from?

It doesn’t take an engineer to figure that one out.

A day to pray

We have a right and obligation to pray personally and publicly for our community, our state, our nation, and our world!

We are free to trust in, and talk to, our God!

It is clear our Founding Fathers deeply felt the need for religious freedom.

For example, George Washington declared “It is impossible to rightly govern the world, without God and the Bible”; and, he prayed “Bless O Lord the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of Thee and Thy Son, Jesus Christ.”

Did he want to exclude God and the Judea-Christian influence from his and our political and public thoughts and actions? Hardly!

And, to quote Ronald Reagan: “If we ever forget that we are One Nation under God, then we will be a nation-gone-under.”

As a family of God, at noon on May 1, we can exercise our constitutional freedom – we can pray together at the Forest Lake Lakeside Park.

Wherever you are at noon on May 1, join us in prayer for our families, churches, community, state, nation and world.

Specifically pray for our youth, parents, clergy, teachers, and the leaders in the media and in all levels of government. We certainly have much to pray about.

And, as always, we have much to be thankful for!

School process

In response to the cancellation of the Vets for Freedom event, the ISD 831 School Board set up a task force to sort out the facts and decisions surrounding it. On the face of it, a good decision.

But I don’t understand the personnel makeup of the task force. Ideally, it should be completely impartial.

Short of that, invite membership from those who have expressed opinions on both sides of the issue. I can maybe understand Board President Bresin and Board Member Grafft on it if they were not involved in the decision.

But why are Superintendent Steenblock and Principal Massey on it? These two administrators were reportedly the ones that made the decision to cancel the event. This appears to be a huge conflict of interest especially since board members Langness nor Gay, who expressed displeasure, were reportedly denied membership. To put it more crudely: It doesn’t pass the “sniff test” and it appears to be a stacked deck.

Why would Mr. Steenblock and Mr. Massey even want to be on the task force?

They may have in fact made the right decision but the findings of the task force will be held in question because of the perception of their mere membership on it.

Take a deep breath

Over all I think that Forest Lake School District, Vets for Freedom and the American Legion worked out an equitable respectful solution to a threatened disruption at the high school.

The school maintained its schedule for the day so students could study, attend classes, take final exams and maintain their focus on the learning process.

The Vets for Freedom gave their presentation at the American Legion and students who wanted to attend were excused from school.

The tragedy of this chain of events is the tendency of some people to verbally attack school officials trying to maintain a normal school day or to generally interpret this single event as a sign of disrespect for all veterans.

We want our students to have high test scores and we honor our veterans.

Let us take a deep breath, be thankful for our schools and our armed forces, for educators, students and veterans.

Let us renew our efforts to understand and be understood.
