Wildlife Center's Wine for Wolves
The Wildlife Science Center is holding its annual Wine For the Wolves Wine Tasting and Silent Auction on Friday, April 11 at American Legion Post 225 in Forest Lake. The Wildlife Science Center’s ambassador birds of prey will be on hand, and a silent auction will also be held. All proceeds will benefit the Wildlife Science Center. FLBA baseball tryouts; meeting
FLBA traveling baseball tryout dates for 13- and 14-year-olds is Saturday, April 12. Weather make-up day is Sunday, April 13. Same times and location.
13-year-olds (FLHS fields): Saturday, April 12, from 9-11:30 a.m.
14-year-olds (FLHS fields): Saturday, April 12, from 12:30-3 p.m.
• The Forest Lake Baseball Association's Parent Meeting is Tuesday, April 22. If you are the parent of a player (ages 10-14) who successfully made a traveling team, you must attend this meeting. It is being held at 6:30 p.m. at the Forest Lake American Legion. Any questions, call Dale Hager at 651-433-5288.
Get your piece of 'the Rock'
Castlewood Golf Course, also known as "the Rock," has openings for teams or individuals who would like to find a place on a team. Co-manager Don Ringstmeyer says they still have room for couples in their Monday Night Fun League. Some spots are available for the Wednesday night Men's League as well as Thursday morning's Senior Men's League. Practice rounds start the week of April 13. For additional information, call 651-464-6233. League fees include approximately 20 weeks of golf, MGA handicap, weekly prizes and the annual banquet.

'Silvera' women's running group
A new group for beginning to intermediate runners will be starting up on April 12 in Forest Lake. Runners will walk and jog their way to their first 5K. Class will utilize interval training (combination of walking, jogging and running) for increased fat burning. Jogging strollers welcome. Workouts will take place on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 9 a.m., on the Hardwood Creek Trail along HWY 61. The optional Officer Silvera Memorial Run will take place on Saturday, August 23. The cost for 18 weeks is $149 for two runs a week and $99 for one per week. Twenty percent of class profits is going to the Honduras Water Project, bringing clean drinking water to people in need (see www.shawnsilvera.org/water-project.aspx). FLAFA's monthly meeting
The Forest Lake Fastpitch Association (FLAFA) holds its monthly meeting on the third Thursday of each month at Stella's on 97 at 7 p.m. The next meeting is Thursday, April 17.
Sports Complex groundbreaking
The Board of Directors for the Forest Lake Sports Complex has announced a groundbreaking ceremony and party for Saturday, April 19. The official ceremony begins at 10 a.m., with members of the Forest Lake Area Athletic Association, high school athletes and city council members on hand for a photograph.
The groundbreaking party is also April 19, beginning at 7 p.m. and held at the VFW, 556 SW 12th Street, Forest Lake. The party is open to the public and costs $15 per individual or $25 per couple. Free appetizers and cash bar, with Tati providing entertainment.
Community Ed's elementary and junior high baseball registration
Students in grades K-6 may still register for the Community Education Elementary Baseball Program. The season starts in mid-April and ends in early July. Cost to participate is $89. Placement on a team is no longer guaranteed.
The Northstar Baseball League is open to students in grades 7-9 who are interested in playing summer rec baseball. Teams play 16 games between May 19 and August 1 against other Forest Lake teams and teams in other north metro communities. Cost is $150 before April 3, or $170 after the early registration period. Placement on a team is not guaranteed after April 3.

OMC hosts 5K run/walk
Spring is just around the corner and a great way to kick start your fitness goals is at the Healthy Heart 5K Run/Walk, hosted by Osceola Medical Center. This event is April 19. Participants will take a scenic route through the community of Osceola starting at the high school. Individuals, families and teams are invited to participate. The run/walk is hosted by OMC, a critical access hospital and clinic along the St. Croix River in Osceola. Registration starts at 7 a.m.; the race starts at 8:30 a.m. Awards will be presented on or around 9:30 a.m. Entry fees are $15 by April 4 and $20 after April 4 and on race day.
Proceeds of the event will go to the Think Pink Campaign, which is raising money for the region’s first digital mammography unit. The Think Pink Campaign is sponsored by the Osceola Community Health Foundation. Michael Schwarz to run Boston
The Boston Marathon is known for its unpredictable New England weather, hills that appear 17 miles into the course, and spirited spectators. Although the race is different each year, it still attracts runners from all over the country, including Michael Schwarz, 48 of Lino Lakes, Minn.
On April 21, Schwarz will run as a member of the 2008 American Liver Foundation Run for Research (RFR) team, Michael will join 245 other teammates for 26.2 hilly miles. These runners not only train for a marathon, they vigorously fundraise to help the one in ten Americans affected by over 100 types of liver disease. Nearly 20 percent of Americans have fatty liver disease, a byproduct of obesity in children and adults, and over 15,000 children are hospitalized every year with a form of liver disease.

FLAAA meets on 2nd Tuesday
The FLAAA holds its regular monthly meeting the second Tuesday of each month at The Cornerstone in Wyoming at 7 p.m. Questions about the FLAAA or meetings call Terri or Larry Porter at 651-464-8094. The next meeting is Tuesday, May 13.
Complex fundraising challenge
The Forest Lake Sports Complex could land another $20,000 for its fundraising campaign if local hockey families step up to a new matching grant challenge. Forest Lake Hockey Association President Kirby Sell and his family are donating $10,000, with the caveat that hockey association members match it with individual contributions totaling $10,000.
For their contributions to be counted in the match challenge, Forest Lake Hockey Association members must make a contribution by June 1, 2008 and write “Hockey Match” on the memo line of their checks or on their donation forms.
