A coincidence?

I had the pleasure last Saturday evening to enjoy an evening at the Bloomington Community Center, bloomingtonartcenter.com, whose Art Center provided the venue for “Celebrating Ellington and Strayhorn” co-sponsored by the Minnesota Jazz Society and KBEM 88.5, the jazz channel operated by the Minneapolis School District.

I have enjoyed similar class presentations at the Hopkins Community Center, hopkinsmn.com/_hca, including live jazz and accompaniment of classic silent movies. I imagine it cannot be a coincidence that the Bloomington Human Rights Commission has a budget well over $10,000 per  year.

It is really not that I oppose the Forest Lake Community Center consisting of hockey rinks despite 90 percent of those polled opposing the same.

It is how long before I can hear “Sophisticated Lady” played by true professionals in ours?

For that matter, it is how long before something worthwhile enough can be scheduled there that we think about getting our center its own website.

Our strength

National prayer is never more important, because we have the dilemma of identifying candidates that will best serve God and the entire nation.

Today we all are faced with many insecurities from with in and without. Fortunately, our God has provided his strength and his shield to help us — each day, each moment!

God asks us to trust him; and not be discouraged or overwhelmed by our circumstances.

Please join the Forest Lake community in prayer on Thursday, May 1 at noon at the Lakeside Park.

Many pastors from area churches will lead us in prayer for family, churches and clergy, schools and administrators, media leaders, soldiers, government leaders, and the world!

Our Columbus

The website for the city of Columbus states:

“Imagine living the dream of many. To be surrounded by woods, waterfront, wildlife, and wilderness acreage. Now go one step further with this magnificent picture.

You’re also living 20 minutes from a major metropolitan area with an eclectic mix of cultural venues and restaurants from which to choose. Dream no more. Columbus is that rural atmosphere, located on the Anoka sand plain with easy access to the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.”

So why the fuss about someone wanting to sell land that is private, zoned rural residential and adjoins the Lamprey Pass to the DNR?

Peg Hoffman recently stated that it’s a good thing that government, Rhonda Sivarajah, stepped in and told a citizen who they can or can’t sell to specifically in the Steinke case.

This should send chills!

And nothing says rural country charm quite like a racetrack! Gambling and drinking, well at least they are elements for a good country song.

The Forest Lake YSB sings the praises of the track because they were special guests at a pre-opening event. They seem to think that being treated nicely in a hospitality  business was something special! I would say that the track officials spent their money wisely on that party.

We may have to add to the city’s website this motto: “If the end is money, we don’t mind the means.”

Parmly thanks

The Forest Lake community is the best!

The Friends of Parmly would like to thank everyone for all the wonderful support for the annual Parmly Ham Dinner on April 17 at the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City.

About 400 people were there to enjoy the event. The Chisago County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provided supplemental funds to help upgrade the sound system for the Parmly chapel.

A special thank you goes out to all the individuals, organizations and businesses who helped make this a successful event. We are extremely grateful to the more than 90 volunteers who helped make this event possible.

We look forward to doing this again next year.
