The last squad to pull into the starting gate this spring was the Forest Lake girls golf team, which began the year by coming in fourth at the Hill Murray Invitational on Monday, and earning a second place at Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury on April 17.
At the Hill Murray Invite, the Rangers turned in a score of 373, with Betsy Kelly coming in with an 82 and Emily Wislicenus at 86. Rounding out the top four were Mallory Messin at 94 and both Katie Nowicki and Brittany Seifert at 101. Lauren Gravelle scored a 104.
“It’s still not where it can be, or where we need it to be,” head coach Joel Hall said. “We saw some improvement but it still is not where we feel we should be as a team. We’ll work hard the next two days in practice and see what comes out of it on Thursday at Hastings.”
The improvement Hall references goes back to last week, when the girls opened the year with a second-place finish at Woodbury. Forest Lake’s final score was 182, in what Hall admitted was “not our best effort.”
Kelly finished with a 40 and Messin was close behind at 42. Wislicenus turned in a 49, while Nowicki and Seifert tied again, this time at 51. Gravelle closed out with a 54.
As Hall mentioned, the Rangers are in Hastings on Thursday, and slide over to Stillwater on Monday.
