Wyoming Mayor Sheldon Anderson will be one of five state and regional officials who will take part in a panel discussion during the Minnesota Governor’s Afterschool Opportunities Summit from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Wilder Foundation in St. Paul. Along with Anderson, other panelists are: Alice Seagren, Minnesota Department of Education commissioner; Michael Campion, Minnesota Department of Public Safety commissioner; Chris Coleman, mayor, St. Paul; and Steve Lampi, mayor, Brooklyn Park. Robert Bruininks, president, University of Minnesota, is the keynote speaker. The purpose of state summit is to make the case for high-quality afterschool learning opportunities for Minnesota’s children and youth. Anderson will focus his comments on his role earlier this year to support the Forest Lake Teen Center, an afterschool program offered to junior high school students through ISD 831 Community Education. He raised more than $35,000 for the program by living on top of the Wyoming City Hall and seeking financial pledges for businesses, individuals and organizations.
